Starting a business with little cash

Posted at January 9, 2006 08:24 AM

Okay, now that I managed to survive Christmas it's time for me to dig in and get started on some catching up. This first one came across my desk almost a month ago, and is really neat.

Jennifer Laycock of Search Engine Guide fame started a little case study back in December to document the process of getting a web site up and running --and more importantly building a good foundation for a profitable e-business. She's been keeping a diary of sorts so that others can see how it's done and glean some ideas to use with their own endeavors.

It's a really good read. Jennifer has laid out, in plain English, each of the steps she's taken. While not all of the ideas will work for every type of site, her series of articles can definitely help anyone new to the e-commerce world.

The series has been dubbed Zero Cash, A Little Talent and 30 Days. I highly recommend taking the time to start at Day 1 and reading through each entry, taking notes on things that would fit in with your own site.

Though the series is due to end in a couple of days, I hope that Jenn releases updates six months, one year and eighteen months down the road. Sort of wrap ups of how things started, where she was at the end of one month and where she is at each of those markers. It's already a very instructive exercise, but I think it could become even more valuable when a little more time has managed to pass.

Thanks for the kind words Randy. :)

To note though...I work for Search Engine Guide. (Though Search Engine Watch is a great site too...)

Gah! I'll correct that right now Jen.

Keep up the good work!
